Parents: Registering for School

This information is from the 2005-2006 Boston Public Schools Policy Handbook.

How
If you are registering for the Boston Public Schools for the first time, you must go to a Parent Information Center. Please bring:

  • Three preprinted proofs of your residency: utility bills or bank statement dated within the past two months; a driver's license; Medicare or Medicaid card; Boston Housing Authority lease; etc.
  • Up-to-date immunization records.
  • Your child's original birth certificate or passport if you are registering for Kindergarten or Grade 1.

If your child already attends a Boston Public School, you will get an application from your child's school.

When
KINDERGARTEN AND GRADES 1, 6, AND 9:
First Application Period & Transfers:
January 9-February 3, 2006
Assignments issued: Week of March 13

Late Applications:
February 6-March 23, 2006
Assignments issued: Week of April 17

GRADES 2-5, 7-8, 10-12:
February 6-March 14, 2006
Assignments issued: Week of April 21

APPLICATIONS PROCESSED MONTHLY:
March 27-June 30, 2006

Go to any Parent Information Center. Hours: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday during the school year; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. during school vacations. Call 617-635-9660 to ask about summer hours.
